What the hell is up with people trying to shove their opinions and beliefs and especially their religion down other people's throats??

I have friends with drastically different beliefs from mine, which is not a problem in and of itself. But as soon as they start trying to force their beliefs on me...well, it's all I can do not to tell them to take a long hike off a short cliff. They say they respect my beliefs, but by trying to change them, doesn't that just prove the opposite to be true? "Oh, come join us in church, you might like it!" I actually had one friend try to use the casualness of her church to attempt to lure me in - "You should check out our church sometime, you don't even have to dress up, you can wear jeans and a tshirt if you want!" Yes, because the fact that you have to dress up is the number one thing keeping me out of church. Thank you for giving me hope of dressing casually, I suddenly feel like being brainwashed! Gosh, if only I'd known...
